Dhaka, Sep 29 (V7N): The government has suspended the one-year prison sentence of Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, in connection with a case filed at Kafrul police station in 2007.

A circular signed by Mohammad Abu Sayed Mollah of the Security Services Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs was issued on Sunday, confirming the suspension.

The circular states that the suspension follows an application for leniency and the opinion of the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs. Under Section 401(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the suspension is conditional upon Zubaida Rahman surrendering to the relevant court and filing an appeal. The order was issued by the president.
