Dhaka, Nov 13 (V7N)- Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman stated in the High Court on Wednesday that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the nation's undisputed leader, asserting that while some parties have tried to politicize his legacy, this status remains undeniable.

His remarks came during a hearing on a rule challenging the legality of the 15th Amendment to the Constitution. The bench was led by Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury.

During the proceedings, the attorney general highlighted that Article 142, which once allowed for referendums, was removed by the 15th Amendment. He called for its reinstatement, criticizing the removal as a decision made by "MPs who gained their seats through illicit voting practices."

Previously, on August 19, the High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar issued a rule questioning the constitutionality of the 15th Amendment, which abolished the caretaker government system. This rule was in response to a writ petition by SHUJAN Secretary Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar.

Passed on June 30, 2011, the 15th Amendment not only officially recognized Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the Father of the Nation but also eliminated the caretaker government system and raised the number of reserved seats for women in parliament from 45 to 50.
