Khulna, 29 Jan (V7N) - A court has sent 19 people, including the chairman of Madhupur Union of Khulna Terkhada Upazila and the office secretary of the Awami League, to jail in a case filed under the Fight and Explosives Act. On Tuesday (January 28) afternoon, Khulna Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Nishat Sultana rejected their bail application and ordered them to be sent to jail.

The accused sent to jail are Madhupur Union Chairman Sheikh Md. Muhasin, Monirul Sheikh, Ikramul Kabir, Masud Biswas, Mahabub Sheikh, Habibur Sheikh, Hadis Biswas, Mizan Fakir, Jamal Sheikh, Akhter Sikder, Yusuf Biswas, Liton Molla, Nazrul Molla, Matiar Sheikh, Mahasin Sikder, Shahid Biswas, Ruhul Sikder, Mr. Ali and Lincoln Mina.

The case report states that on December 22, 2018, at around 6:30 pm, BNP parliamentary candidate for Khulna 4 constituency Azizul Bari Helal and party leaders and activists reached Mokampur Bazar in Terkhada Upazila to campaign for the 11th National Parliament election. At that time, about 100/150 accused, led by Salam Murshedi, the number one accused in the case, blocked Azizul Bari Helal's movement by shouting slogans of Joy Bangla.  On the orders of Chairman Muhasin, the 3rd accused in the case, KM Alamgir Hossain, fired 4/5 rounds blankly with a revolver. The other accused attacked the BNP leaders and workers with indigenous weapons to disperse them.

On November 4, 2024, Azizul Hakim of Mokampur village of Terkhada upazila filed a case against about 205 people under the Fight and Explosives Act at Terkhada Police Station, of which no. 2. The main accused in the case, Salam Murshedi, is already in jail in this case. The others tried to take bail, but the court rejected it and sent them to jail.
