Dhaka, Aug 22 (V7N): A lawsuit has been lodged in Gopalganj concerning an attack on army personnel, arson, vandalism, and the theft of weapons.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Maksudul Alam of the 10th Bengal Regiment initiated the legal action at Gopalganj Sadar police station on Thursday.

The complaint names 106 individuals, including the president and general secretary of the district Awami League, and also lists 3,200 unidentified persons as defendants.

Gopalganj Sadar police station's officer-in-charge, Mohammad Anisur Rahman, confirmed the case and noted that an investigation has begun, though no suspects have been apprehended yet.

According to the case details, on August 10, a large group of Awami League leaders, activists, and local residents gathered to protest and block the Dhaka-Khulna highway, demanding the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Army personnel on duty in Gopalganj were dispatched to the scene to request that the protesters leave the highway and continue their demonstration peacefully. The situation escalated into a confrontation, resulting in an attack on the soldiers.

The incident led to injuries for nine individuals, including four army officers. The attackers also stole two rifles and six magazines from the army, set one vehicle ablaze, and vandalized two others.

Later that day, one weapon was recovered, and the following day, another weapon and three magazines were retrieved by the army.
