Teknaf, Feb 16, (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested two individuals along with 69 bombs and bomb-making equipment in a special operation at Hnila border in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The arrests took place on Sunday morning after a three-hour search operation.
The arrested individuals are:
Md. Samrat Pradhan (33), son of Nazrul Islam, from Naburkandi village, Chandpur Matlab North Police Station area.
Md. Antar (32), son of Saiful Islam, from Dakshin Garmora village, Narayanganj Bandar Thana area.
Lt. Col. Ashikur Rahman, Commander of Teknaf 2 Battalion BGB, confirmed the arrest in a brief message on Sunday afternoon.
The Operation
The operation began early Sunday morning when BGB received secret information about suspicious activity in the Phule Dale area of Hnila Union, Teknaf. The information indicated that several miscreants were hiding in an abandoned house with bomb-making equipment.
A special raiding team led by Lt. Col. Ashikur Rahman quickly acted on the intelligence. The team conducted a thorough search of some dilapidated tin-shed houses in the area, with strict security measures in place.
After a detailed search lasting about three hours, the BGB arrested the two suspects and found 69 hand grenades inside the abandoned house, along with bomb-making equipment. Two other individuals, who were present in the courtyard of the house, managed to flee when they realized the BGB was approaching.
Suspects’ Confession and Investigation
During interrogation, the detainees revealed that they were part of an organized criminal group involved in making contract bombs. These bombs were sold and distributed across various parts of the country. The suspects stated that the bombs were intended for criminal activities, including local domination, terrorist attacks, and sabotage operations.
BGB Commander Lt. Col. Ashikur Rahman confirmed that the arrested individuals, along with the seized bombs and bomb-making equipment, would be handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station. The authorities are also continuing efforts to track down the fugitives who escaped and are investigating the owner of the abandoned house.
Ongoing Efforts
The BGB is continuing to investigate the criminal network involved and is working to arrest the remaining suspects. The authorities are determined to dismantle the group responsible for producing and distributing explosives.
