Ukhiya, July 24 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested three women drug traffickers with 1.14 lakh yaba tablets in the Marichya Joint Checkpost area of Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. According to the BGB, the seized drugs are valued at approximately Tk 3.42 crore.
The arrested women are Sabekun Nahar (40), wife of Saker Ahmed from West Rangi Khali in the South Hnila area of Teknaf, Amina Akter (30), wife of Khairul Bashar, and Sumaiya Akter (21), wife of Ebadullah. They were handed over to the Ramu Police Station in the evening. The operation was conducted around 2:30 PM on Thursday in the Goalia area of Ukhiya.
A team from the BGB had stationed themselves in the Goalia area, and during a routine check, they stopped an auto-rickshaw for inspection. When the behavior of the three female passengers seemed suspicious, they were questioned. Upon a thorough body search, 1.14 lakh yaba tablets were found hidden in various parts of their bodies.
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, the commanding officer of the Ramu Battalion, stated, "The BGB remains on high alert along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. We are continuously working to combat drug trafficking and smuggling. Such operations will continue in the future."
He further mentioned that after taking preliminary legal action, the seized drugs and arrested individuals were handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
