Jhalokathi, Feb 2 (V7N) — A tragic incident occurred in Baidarapur Mollabari village under Jhalokathi Sadar upazila, where a woman was killed allegedly by her son.

The incident took place around 1:30 pm on Sunday (February 1). The victim was identified as Shefali Begum, 62. The accused is her son Sagar, 32, son of Ahmad Khan. Sagar is the youngest among three siblings.

According to local residents, Sagar had been suffering from drug addiction and mental health issues for a long time. Neighbors alleged that he frequently abused his mother. Abdul Khaleq Khan, a resident of a nearby house, said that Sagar had been torturing his mother for an extended period.

Eyewitness Sahida Akter said that Sagar attacked his mother with a sharp weapon. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the house and found Shefali Begum lying motionless inside.

Following the incident, neighbor Nannu Khan informed Jhalokathi Sadar Police Station. On receiving the information, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Md. Belayet Hossain visited the scene. He said that preliminary inquest procedures had been completed and arrangements were being made to send the body for autopsy. Police are taking steps to detain those involved and initiate legal action.
