Two Arrested Over Controversy at JM Sen Hall Pujamandap for Islamic Songs Performance

Chittagong, Oct 11 (V7N)- Police have arrested two individuals involved in a controversial incident where Islamic songs were performed on the cultural stage of the JM Sen Hall Pujamandap in Chittagong. The arrests were made late on Thursday night, with a case filed at Kotwali Police Station following the uproar.

The controversy arose earlier on Thursday, when performers sang Islamic songs at the shrine’s cultural stage. Parts of the performance were shared on social media, leading to widespread protests from netizens, particularly members of the Hindu community , who expressed outrage over the performance of songs with Islamic ideology at a Hindu religious event.

The incident reportedly occurred after the performers were invited by Sajal Dutt , Joint General Secretary of the Chittagong Metropolitan Puja Celebration Committee . The Puja Celebration Council has since expressed regret over the incident and swiftly expelled Sajal Dutt from the committee for authorizing the performance.

Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam visited the JM Sen Hall Pujamandap shortly after the incident to assess the situation. She assured that those responsible would face legal consequences within 24 to 48 hours , irrespective of their influence. She also confirmed that a case would be filed against them immediately.

The Student Camp organization, initially linked to the incident, has denied any involvement. Fakhrul Islam , President of the Chattogram Metropolitan (North) Student Camp , condemned the incident and distanced the organization from it, stating that none of their members attended the pujamandap.

This incident has sparked a significant reaction, highlighting sensitivities around religious practices and cultural events.
