Mongla, Bagerhat, June 14 (V7N) – The world-renowned heavy lift vessel, MV 'Jambu Kinati', sailing under the flag of the Netherlands, made a notable arrival at Mongla Port last Tuesday. This marks a significant event for the port, as it is the first time a vessel of such immense lifting capacity has docked there.
Shakhawat Hossain Milon, operations manager for Jambu Kinati's local shipping agent, Allsys Shipping Ltd., highlighted the ship's capabilities. "It is a world-famous heavy lift ship. The capacity of one crane of this ship is 1,500 metric tons," Milon stated. "The ship has two cranes, giving it a combined lifting capacity of 3,000 metric tons."
The MV 'Jambu Kinati' is currently undertaking the re-export of four anchorage boats and one crane. Each of the anchorage boats weighs a substantial 440 metric tons, while the crane weighs 50 metric tons. These pieces of equipment were previously utilized for dredging operations in the Pashur Channel of Mongla Port.
After the loading is complete, the vessel is scheduled to depart from the port's No. 7 anchorage in Harbaria on Monday, bound for China.
Milon emphasized the unprecedented nature of this visit, noting, "This type of heavy lift ship has not come to Mongla port before. This is the first heavy lift ship." He further explained that previous heavy lift vessels that called at Mongla Port had a maximum crane capacity of 1,000 metric tons, making 'Jambu Kinati's' 1,500-metric-ton crane capacity a new record for the port.
