During the holy month of Ramadan, everyday basics are becoming more expensive in Khulna.

The common folks are facing difficulties. The cost of everyday necessities is rising in the market despite the government's numerous measures.

No action of the government to control the market is working. The prices of lemon, cucumber, coriander leaves and tomatoes increased again on Friday.

A dozen lemons are being sold at Tk 180 to Tk 240 depending on the market. 80 to 120 taka per kg of cucumber depending on the standard. Dates have advanced in the race to increase the price. The least expensive dates are being sold at Tk 250-500. Good quality dates up to Tk 2500.

It has been seen in various markets of the city that watermelons, which are at the peak of demand during Ramadan, are being sold at the rate of Tk 90-100 per kg. Accordingly, a small sized watermelon costs at least 300 to 600 taka. Eggplants used in preparation of iftar items are being sold for Tk 80 to Tk 120.

Potatoes are being sold at Tk 35 to Tk 50 in full season. And tomatoes are being sold at Tk 50 to Tk 80 depending on the quality. The price of raw pepper has increased. Pepper is being sold at 80 to 100 taka per kg. Traders complain that import of all types of vegetables is less since last week due to bad weather. So the vegetable market went up.

Several buyers who came to market in Mistripara and Sandhya market of the city said that no initiative taken by the government is affecting the market. In foreign countries, the prices of all kinds of goods are reduced during the month of Ramadan. And in our country, it seems that the price increases the most in the month of Ramadan.

Although there is sufficient supply of all things in the market, the prices of almost everything have gone up. The pressure on us is increasing.
