Feb 19 (V7N) — A man was allegedly hacked to death by his drug-addicted son over a dispute for money in Atgharia upazila of Pabna, police said.

The incident occurred around 11:00 am on Wednesday in Harulpara village under Majpara union.

The deceased was identified as Lokman Hossain, 55, son of late Mofiz Uddin of the village. The accused, Kamrul Islam, 32, is his son.

According to police and local sources, Kamrul had long been addicted to drugs and frequently demanded money from his father. On Wednesday morning, he again asked Lokman Hossain for money to buy drugs, which led to a heated argument between the two.

At one stage, Kamrul allegedly attacked his father with a sharp weapon inside their house, leaving him critically injured. Lokman Hossain died on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge of Atgharia Police Station, Rafiqul Islam, confirmed that police rushed to the scene after receiving information and arrested the accused son.

“The body has been recovered and sent to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Further legal action is under process,” the OC said.

Police said a case is being prepared in connection with the incident.
