On Tuesday (April-16) afternoon, Rakhine men and women of different ages gathered at Maha Ching Drogi Buddhist Monastery in Cox's Bazar. Today was the last day of 1385 years in the Rakhine calendar. Many people, including those who were born on this day, came to Bihar for last day prayers. The Rakhine Year 1386 Water Festival or Sangreng begins tomorrow, Wednesday April 17.

Sangreng is the biggest social festival of the Rakhine community which has been going on since time immemorial, said Rakhine social worker Manghlami.

Those concerned said that water festival is being held in about 50 places of Rakhine villages of Cox's Bazar district. Among them, there are 12 Jal Utsav mandapas in Cox's Bazar city. Most of which are in the final stages of preparation.

Director of Cultural Center Mangchengla said that this time they will provide support to many water festivals of the district with a mandap in their own arrangement.

This three-day Jal Utsav will last from April 17 to 19, by sprinkling auspicious water on each other to get rid of past sorrows and failures.
