In Chattogram, the female population exceeds the male population. However, the number of unmarried men surpasses that of unmarried women. The male population stands at 4,570,113, while the female population is 4,598,926. The rate of unmarried men is 42.43%, compared to 26.52% for unmarried women.

This data was presented by Md. Wahidur Rahman, Deputy Director of the District Statistics Office, based on the 2022 Census and Household Survey Report. The report was unveiled at a presentation on Thursday (June 27) at Chattogram Circuit House.

According to the report, Chattogram's population increased by 1,553,000, reaching 9,169,465. Despite the higher number of women, men lead in literacy rates, with 82.88% for men and 79.26% for women.

As of June 14, 2022, Chattogram had a population of 9,169,465, with 4,284,249 in rural areas and 4,885,216 in urban areas. The population density is 1,736 people per square kilometer, up from 1,442 in 2011. The annual population growth rate has risen to 1.65% from 1.40% in 2011.

In Chattogram, 87.53% of the population is Muslim, 10.72% Hindu, and 1.63% Buddhist. 

There are more unmarried men than women, with 42.43% of men and 26.52% of women unmarried. The female population outnumbers the male population, with 99.37 men for every 100 women. 

Chattogram has 28,813 more women than men.The literacy rate in Chattogram is 81.06%, with 79.26% for women and 82.88% for men. Among the 15-24 age group, 30.38% are not engaged in education, employment, or training, including 46.62% of women and 12.16% of men.

Agricultural employment in Chattogram is declining, with 17.46% engaged in agriculture, 28.74% in industry, and 53.80% in the service sector. 

Mobile phone usage among those aged 15 and above is 77.07%, with 68.50% of women and 85.98% of men. Internet usage is at 50.82%, with 42.43% of women and 59.54% of men online.

The event, presided over by Joint Secretary of the Department of Statistics and Information Management, Dev Dulal Bhattacharya, featured Chief Guest District Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman and special guest statistician Chandan Kumar Poddar. 

Representatives from various government institutions and media personnel also attended.
