Rangamati, Aug 04 (V7N) - In Rangamati, the ruling party’s leaders and activists have taken a hardline stance against the ongoing non-cooperation movement. Since the morning, leaders and activists from the Awami League and its affiliated organizations have been stationed at key points in the city and conducting processions intermittently.

As in other parts of the country, students protesting against discrimination attempted to gather at New Market in Rangamati. However, the police did not allow them to remain on the streets. When the students were heading back to their campus and reached the area near Rangamati General Hospital, they were attacked by leaders and activists of the ruling party’s student organization.

Parvez Hossain Suman, an activist of the anti-discrimination movement, claimed that 7 to 8 students were injured in the attack, which he alleged was carried out suddenly by a few leaders and activists of the Chhatra League. The injured students received treatment at Rangamati General Hospital, and later, the police escorted them back home from the hospital.

To manage the situation, Rangamati’s Police Superintendent Mir Abu Touhid personally intervened with senior police officers to mediate between both sides and de-escalate the tension.

Additionally, to prevent any form of sabotage, attacks, or destructive activities, the Rangamati District Commissioner organized a meeting of the District Anti-Terrorism and Sabotage Prevention Committee with representatives from all levels of the district. District Commissioner Mosharrf Hossain Khan urged the people of Rangamati to stay vigilant against rumors and called on parents and responsible citizens to safeguard government property and ensure the safety of their children at home.
