Tangail, Sep 04 (V7N) — On Tuesday night, fierce confrontations between rival factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) erupted in the industrial zone of Mirzapur upazila, Tangail, leaving at least 10 individuals injured. The wounded were taken to Kumudini Hospital, with one person in critical condition who has since been transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

The violence is believed to be the result of a power struggle between two BNP factions competing for control over factories in the industrial area. Tensions have been rising since the government’s collapse on August 5, with one faction led by former BNP leader Feroz Haider Khan and another led by upazila BNP joint secretary Khandkar Anwar Parvez Shah Alam, both seeking to dominate the lucrative extortion operations in the region.

Local residents have reported that the ongoing conflict has led to several attempts by both factions to seize control of factories, causing significant anxiety among factory owners and workers. On Tuesday night, the situation escalated into violence as the groups clashed over the control of a workers' party office near Ganibhanga bus station.

The altercation involved approximately 20-30 members from Feroz Haider Khan’s group and 40-50 members from Shah Alam’s faction, resulting in a brutal confrontation. During the clash, several individuals were injured, offices were vandalized, and motorcycles were set on fire.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, no formal police complaints had been filed by 8 a.m. Wednesday. However, the duty officer at Mirzapur Police Station confirmed that police acted swiftly to control the situation.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and further investigations are anticipated as the situation develops. The community remains tense, apprehensive about the potential for additional violence as the struggle for dominance continues.
