Khulna, Feb 26 (V7N) – Students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have started vacating their residence halls following the university's order to close the campus indefinitely due to security concerns.
On Tuesday (February 25), the KUET syndicate held an emergency meeting and directed students to leave their halls by 10 AM on Wednesday (February 26). As a result, students began leaving sporadically on Tuesday afternoon, with the rest departing throughout Wednesday morning.
Security Concerns and Ongoing Protests
The decision to close the campus follows a violent clash on February 18, which left more than 150 students injured. Since then, students have been protesting, demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Pro-VC, and Student Director.
Previously, in a February 19 emergency meeting, the syndicate closed the campus until February 28, but no instructions were given to vacate the residence halls until now.
Students Hope for a Resolution
Some students expressed concern over the situation but said they were leaving the halls for their own safety. They hope that the crisis will soon be resolved and that academic activities will resume in a peaceful environment.
Authorities have not yet provided further updates on when the university will reopen.
