Dhaka, Jan 26, (V7N) - On January 25, Culture Advisor Mostafa Sarwar Farooki announced the postponement of the Bangla Academy Award list for 2024. He made the announcement in a post on his verified Facebook page late on Saturday.

In his post, Farooki stated that the list of winners for the Bangla Academy Awards had been suspended. He also emphasized that the current policy, which he described as strange and outdated, allows for awards with questionable criteria. He mentioned that reviewing these policies would be the first priority, adding that a complete overhaul of the Bangla Academy's management and its guidelines would be pursued. He further noted, "If we are working toward the reform of the country, why not the reform of the Bangla Academy as well?"

Earlier, on January 23, the Bangla Academy had announced the list of 10 recipients for the 2024 Literary Awards. The list, which was approved by the Executive Council of the Bangla Academy, was signed by the Director-General, Professor Mohammad Azam.

The winners were:

Poetry: Masud Khan

Fiction: Selim Morshed

Drama and Drama Literature: Shubhashis Sinha

Essays/Prose: Salimullah Khan

Children's Literature: Faruk Nawaz

Translation: G.H. Habib

Research: Muhammad Shahjahan Mia

Science: Rezaur Rahman

Liberation War: Mohammad Hannan

Folklore: Syed Jamil Ahmed.
