Rangamati, July 29 (V7N) - On Tuesday, July 29, security forces of the Bangladesh Army’s Baghaichhari Zone conducted a targeted raid in the remote Narendra Karbari Para area of Baghaichhari Upazila, Rangamati District. The operation uncovered a secret armed hideout belonging to the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF – Main), an insurgent group active in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR), the raid began in the early hours following actionable intelligence indicating the presence of a UPDF (Main) armed group in the hilly and inaccessible region. Acting on these reports, the 6 East Bengal Regiment initiated preparations for the mission on Monday night. At approximately 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, the military patrol team from the Baghaichhari Zone reached the targeted area and launched a blockade and search operation.

Upon encountering the army patrol, UPDF operatives attempted to flee, triggering an exchange of gunfire. During the sweep that followed, the Bangladesh Army recovered a substantial cache of weapons and surveillance equipment. Among the seized items were one AK-47 assault rifle, three homemade guns, one local pistol, one LG (light gun), an AK-47 magazine, six live rounds, 42 empty shell casings, and a cartridge.
In addition, military personnel confiscated four walkie-talkies with battery units, an ammunition pouch, a GPS tracking device, three pen-shaped hidden video cameras, two button-shaped spy cameras, one surveillance-enabled pair of glasses, three UPDF flags, five armbands bearing the slogan “Long Live UPDF,” ten books related to military training and ideological material, and two receipt books used for collecting organizational levies.

The raid was led by Lieutenant Colonel Md. Masud Rana, Commander of the Baghaichhari Army Zone. The ISPR confirmed that the operation is part of the military's ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal armed groups operating in the hill tracts.
Authorities emphasized that such operations are strictly aimed at combating militancy and illegal arms in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, and not directed at the region’s peaceful and law-abiding indigenous communities. The Bangladesh Army reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, regardless of ethnic background, and maintaining peace and stability in the region.
As of the latest update, the military operation remains ongoing, and further details will be released upon its conclusion.
