DINAJPUR, Feb 21, 2026 (V7N) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said the government is working to ensure an improved communication system to enhance living standards across the country.

“No mother should ever have to say again, ‘My daughter’s marriage was broken due to poor road conditions’,” he told a meeting with the Nawabganj upazila administration at the Parishad auditorium.

The minister said the government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is committed to visible development and service delivery for people of all classes and professions, irrespective of religion or caste. Referring to the ideals of Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia, he said the government aims to fulfill public expectations and ensure welfare for all.

Highlighting his constituency’s four upazilas, Dr Zahid announced integrated development programs in education, health, agriculture, and communication. He directed law enforcement agencies to take strict measures against extortion, terrorism, drugs, and smuggling, warning that criminals will be brought to justice regardless of identity.

Paying tribute to freedom fighters, he expressed gratitude for their sacrifices, which enabled him to serve as a physician and minister, and sought their cooperation in local development.

The meeting, chaired by Nawabganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Zillur Rahman, was also addressed by Deputy Director of Social Services Mohammad Abdul Matin, District Women and Children Affairs Officer Md Morshed Ali Khan, Upazila Health Officer Dr Mehedi Hasan, and Nawabganj BNP President Md Tarikul Islam. The programme was conducted by Assistant Director Md Roknuzzaman Mondal.

Later, the minister exchanged views with administrations of Ghoraghat and Hakimpur upazilas as part of his daylong programme.
