Cox's Bazar, Sep 05 (V7N) - Several measures have been implemented to protect the environment of Saint Martin Island. Among these, tourists will be restricted and no one will be allowed to visit Saint Martin without registration or permission.

On Thursday (September 5) at a seminar on banning single-use plastics, held in a hotel conference room in Cox's Bazar city, Dr. Abdul Hamid, Director General of the Department of Environment, made this announcement in his speech as the chair of the session.

The Director General stated that there will be zero tolerance for activities such as hill cutting and wetland filling. The Ministry has announced a zero-tolerance policy for these issues. He also mentioned that efforts are underway to address river pollution and that the Department of Environment has already taken several steps to keep the rivers free from pollution.

Dr. Hamid added that efforts to limit tourism on Saint Martin Island will be made to protect the environment and improve the living standards of the local people. He also mentioned that work to make Cox's Bazar plastic-free will commence promptly. The Director General urged everyone to cooperate in keeping the seas free from plastic.
