Dhaka, Nov 10 (V7N)- BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan has asserted that Bangladesh’s Liberation War of 1971 and the recent student-led uprising in 2024 are complementary efforts rather than opposing ones. This perspective, he suggested, can help prevent political discord. His remarks came during a seminar on constitutional reform organized by Nagarik Oikya at the Nasrul Hamid Auditorium in the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Tuesday.

Reflecting on the nation’s progress over half a century since independence, Moyeen emphasized, “Bangladesh cannot advance through divisive politics.” He added, “The constitution is designed to serve the people, not the reverse. If we truly embrace this, then revising or amending it should not be a source of conflict. Our priority must be the people, not just the constitution. Whatever steps are necessary for public welfare, we should undertake—even if it involves constitutional changes.”

Moyeen further elaborated on the goal of establishing a state that centers on citizens’ welfare, encouraging adaptable approaches to reform if intentions are genuine and aimed at serving the public interest.
