In answer to questions from the media during a Chattogram Samiti, Dhaka event, Mahmud said, "This global acknowledgment, along with accolades from 32 international organizations like the United Nations and Commonwealth, has seemingly provoked Ganatantra Mancha to act vindictively."
Mahmud outlined the chronology of events, pointing out that supporters of Ganatantra Mancha went outside their approved rally area and broke over police barricades. He said, "They disobeyed orders and arrested a police officer when they were stopped by law enforcement, which forced the police to use force to control the situation."

Mahmud refuted BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi's allegations that party members are being detained, stating that these people are being freed regularly.
Mahmud also congratulated the recently elected authorities of Chattogram Samiti, Dhaka, a community organization that has been around for 112 years.

In a ceremony presided over by Mohammad Sahadat Hossain Hero, prominent people including former Secretary Muminur Rashid Amin, former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Abdul Karim, and former Information Secretary Didarul Anwar were named as the new President and General Secretary, respectively, Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury and Engineer Ujjwal Mallick.
