London, Jan 24 (V7N) – BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is likely to be discharged from the hospital on Friday night, according to Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of the party's standing committee. Following her release, she will continue receiving treatment at the residence of her son, Tarek Rahman, in London's Kings Cross.
Speaking at a press briefing outside The Clinic on Thursday night (local time), Dr. Zahid stated that arrangements have been made for doctors and nurses to provide care at home. Her treatment will be overseen by renowned specialists Dr. Patrick Kennedy and Dr. Jennifer Cross.
"Preparations are in place to facilitate her treatment at home. Khaleda Zia is physically much better than before, and we are hopeful she can return home if her test results are favorable," Dr. Zahid said.
He mentioned that several medical tests have been conducted over the past 17 days, with some reports still pending. "Doctors will make a final decision after receiving all the test results on Friday. If everything goes well, she might be discharged in the evening," he added.
Regarding a potential liver transplant, Dr. Zahid clarified that no decision has been made yet due to her age and other health considerations. He criticized the delay in allowing her to seek medical treatment abroad during her imprisonment, suggesting it might have expedited her recovery or enabled a liver transplant earlier.
For now, her treatment will continue with medication and medical supervision. Dr. Zahid emphasized that all doctors agree on this approach for the time being.
The BNP leader’s ongoing health condition has been a topic of significant concern, both within the party and among her supporters in Bangladesh and abroad.
