Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) –Chairman of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), Andaleeve Rahman Partho, has said discussions have taken place with the chief adviser regarding how they will work together in the next six months, how various commissions will communicate with them, and what proposals they have.
He made these remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting of the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Saturday.
Andaleeve Partho said: "We have all expressed our appreciation and given some minor suggestions. We want a prompt decision on the election date. We have said that we do not want local elections first because, if held, conflicts may arise in 4,500 unions."
He further added: "The ground reality is different. In the current situation, many do not accept the Awami League and will not accept them. We want to ensure that there is no violence and that stability is maintained. The national election should not be delayed due to any reforms. However, some political parties believe that holding local elections first would be beneficial. These issues are under discussion."
When asked whether any specific decisions were made in the meeting, he said: "It was a general discussion by the commission. A series of follow-up meetings will be held, and good decisions will come from them."
Explaining his party’s stance on the interim government’s activities, Partho said: "We are satisfied. We stand by the government. Where there are mistakes, we are addressing them formally and informally through discussions with the government. I believe no other government in Bangladesh's history has had the collective support of all political parties. The international community and the United Nations are also supporting this government. That is why I believe this is the people's government."
