Dhaka, Feb 16 (V7N) – BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has termed the demand for local government elections before national elections as a short-sighted stance taken by certain political parties.
Speaking after paying tribute to BNP leaders and activists at the tomb of party founder Ziaur Rahman on Sunday (February 16) morning, Rizvi criticized the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus for allegedly delaying national elections.
Rizvi accused Sheikh Hasina of orchestrating a dangerous conspiracy, emphasizing that it must be thwarted by holding national elections as soon as possible.
"The nation is waiting for free, fair, and impartial elections. The interim government is unnecessarily delaying the process," he said.
The BNP leader demanded a final deadline for the national elections to restore democracy, asserting that necessary reforms must be completed swiftly.
BNP has consistently maintained that national elections should take place first, with local government elections following later. The party has also called for electoral reforms to ensure transparency and fairness in the voting process.
