Pabna, Feb 19, (V7N) - A protest rally was held in Pabna demanding the unconditional release of ATM Azharul Islam, a central leader of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh.

The rally took place on Tuesday (February 18) afternoon, organized by the Jamaat-e-Islami Pabna district branch. As part of the central program, a large protest procession began around 11:30 AM from Shaheed Chattar on Abdul Hamid Road in Pabna city. The procession passed through Court Mor, Ananta Mor, Mujahid Club, and ended at the Central Bus Terminal.

Before the rally, a gathering was held at Shaheed Chattar, chaired by Professor Abu Taleb Mondol, Amir of Pabna District Jamaat.

Speakers at the event included Maulana Zahurul Islam Khan, Nayeb-e-Amir of Pabna District Jamaat; Principal Hafiz Maulana Md. Iqbal Hossain; former Amir Maulana Abdur Rahim; Jamaat's Bogura Regional Director Team member Nazrul Islam; former Amir of Bera Upazila Jamaat Abdul Baset Khan; Amir of Pabna Municipal Jamaat Maulana Abdul Latif; Amir of Sadar Upazila Jamaat Abdur Rob; former Mir Professor Rokib Uddin; Ibrahim Khalil Ainul; among others.

The Jamaat leaders said, "47 leaders and activists of BNP in Pabna, who were falsely accused in the Sheikh Hasina train attack case, have been released. Lutfor Rahman Babar, an accused in the 10-truck arms case, has also been released. Tariq Rahman has been freed. Everyone is happy and joyful. However, it is unfortunate that Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam has not been released yet. Despite six months passing under the current government, the release of this suffering leader has not happened."

Respecting the law, the Jamaat leaders said, "On the hearing date of February 20, Azharul Islam must be released. Otherwise, a strong countrywide movement will be launched. Those who signed false affidavits in this case and the judges who gave the verdict must also be brought to justice. At the same time, we demand the restoration of the registration of Jamaat-Shibir, which was canceled by the autocratic government."
