Dhaka, July 12 (V7N) – Following the broad daylight murder of businessman Lal Chand alias Sohag (39) near Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital, BNP leaders have strongly condemned the incident, distancing the party from any involvement and stressing its ‘zero tolerance’ stance on criminal activity.

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed criticized attempts to link the party to the killing, calling such accusations “unpolitical and a reflection of dirty politics.” He reiterated, “BNP and its affiliated organizations have never tolerated crime, nor will they ever. Our stance remains zero tolerance.”

In response to the incident, BNP has taken swift internal action, expelling the accused activists from Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal for life.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir issued a separate statement, calling the murder a “heinous act” and a “grave failure of the state to protect its citizens.” He said, “This brutal killing is not merely the loss of a life—it reflects a deep failure to uphold law and order and protect civil rights following the fall of the Awami fascist government in the July-August mass movement.”

Mirza Fakhrul warned that without exemplary punishment for those responsible, the culture of impunity would deepen and drag society into further darkness.

He urged the interim government to launch an immediate, impartial, and credible investigation into the killing and ensure justice through proper legal channels.

Meanwhile, Jubo Dal, BNP’s youth wing, also issued a statement urging law enforcement agencies to take swift and impartial action against the culprits without any leniency.

Lal Chand Sohag’s murder has sparked widespread outrage, particularly given its brazen nature in a public area. The public and political circles alike are calling for transparency, accountability, and justice.
