Dhaka, July 18, (V7N) – Nurul Haque Nur, President of the People's Rights Council, has called for national elections under a proportional representation (PR) system to abolish what he termed a “fascist state structure” and to bring constitutional change.

Speaking at a mass meeting in Merul Badda on Friday afternoon, held to commemorate the ‘July 36 Private University Resistance’, Nur stated, “Those who do not understand PR do not need to engage in politics. Those who do, will carry it forward.”

He warned that fascism, once weakened by the divisions among participants of past uprisings, has returned. “Its signs have become evident, including the recent attack in Gopalganj on the newly formed National Citizens Party (NCP). Unity is essential—otherwise, we will be defeated again,” he said.

Criticizing the political atmosphere, Nur said that toxic language and personal attacks are damaging the political culture. “If political parties continue to hurl insults at one another in vulgar terms, political coexistence will become impossible,” he added.

The mass gathering was attended by supporters and activists from various student and civic platforms.
