Dhaka, Aug 24 (V7N) – Senior leaders of the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit Saturday afternoon. The meetings, held from afternoon to evening at the Pakistan Embassy in Dhaka, focused on bilateral relations, regional trade, and cooperation among Muslim-majority countries.
From the BNP, standing committee members Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Selima Rahman; vice chairman Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury; and organizing secretary Shama Obaid attended the meeting. However, BNP leaders refrained from making any statements to reporters after the discussions.
In separate meetings, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb Ameer Abdullah Muhammad Taher led a delegation, while NCP’s member secretary Akhtar Hossain headed another team.
Following the talks, Abdullah Muhammad Taher told the media that discussions centered on enhancing regional trade, strengthening relations among Muslim countries, and addressing the imbalance in Bangladesh’s foreign policy.
“Bangladesh’s foreign policy has been one-sided for the past 15 years. It is necessary to have good relations with all neighboring countries,” he said.
Asked about the Liberation War issue, Taher responded:
“The matter of 1971 is an issue to be discussed between the governments of the two countries.”
NCP’s Akhtar Hossain described the meeting as an opportunity to reduce hostility between Dhaka and Islamabad. He added that his delegation highlighted both the sensitivity of the 1971 issue and the sentiments of the Bangladeshi people to the visiting Pakistani leader.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport earlier in the day by Foreign Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam. His Dhaka visit is seen as part of Islamabad’s effort to strengthen bilateral engagement with Bangladesh.
