Dhaka, Sep 23 (V7N) – The National Citizens Party (NCP) has reiterated its demand for the Lotus symbol in the upcoming national elections, despite the Election Commission (EC) stating that the symbol is not in the official list.
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed that the Lotus is not included in the EC’s 115 approved symbols, meaning the NCP will have to select an alternative if it wishes to comply with current regulations.
In response, NCP's chief organizer for the northern region, Sarjis Alam, stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday afternoon that the party will not accept any other symbol. “All kinds of hypocrisy will be dealt with politically. Since there is no legal obstacle, the NCP’s symbol has to be Lotus. There is no other option,” he said.
Sarjis criticized the EC for failing to include Lotus in the list, asking whether officials had been “sitting in the Election Commission watching dramas or following orders of some other institution, party, or agency.”
He emphasized that the NCP had clearly requested the Lotus symbol when it first applied for registration and warned that the party will ensure its position is upheld, regardless of the EC’s stance.
