Dhaka, Oct 02 (V7N) – The National Citizens Party (NCP) has expressed regret over the altercation between journalists and party leaders at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport earlier today, calling the incident “condemnable” and promising corrective measures.
In a statement issued Thursday afternoon, the party said it is investigating the matter and has already ordered organizational action against those found responsible based on evidence.
The statement noted that NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara accompanied Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus to this year’s United Nations General Assembly session, where they exchanged views on global leadership, political developments, and diplomatic initiatives. Upon returning to Dhaka, they had planned a press conference to present their observations.
However, during a briefing by Humayun Kabir, foreign affairs advisor to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, NCP leaders and activists reportedly shouted slogans, creating a chaotic situation. When journalists requested them to stop, clashes occurred, and journalists alleged that they were attacked. In protest, the media boycotted the press conference of Akhtar Hossain and Tasnim Zara.
The NCP statement emphasized that journalists are considered “fellow travelers in the NCP’s progress toward a new Bangladesh,” and such incidents are “never desirable.” The party pledged to exercise greater caution in the future and take initiatives to improve relations with the media.
