Dhaka, Oct 19 (V7N) — National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has accused Jamaat-e-Islami of carrying out a “planned political deception” through its PR-style movement, claiming that the party’s real aim is to disrupt the reform process and divert attention from the national dialogue on state and constitutional restructuring following the people’s uprising.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday (October 19), Nahid Islam said Jamaat’s recent activities were designed to undermine the Reforms Commission’s work and mislead the public.

“The demand for establishing an upper house was presented as a constitutional safeguard through a PR method based on vote evidence,” he wrote. “The goal was to build a strong movement to establish the legal framework of the July Charter, but Jamaat and its allies have hijacked this agenda and turned it into a strategic PR issue to serve their own interests. Their intention was never reform—it was always political influence.”

Nahid further alleged that Jamaat never took part in the reform dialogue, either before or after the July uprising, and failed to contribute any fundamental proposals, constitutional vision, or commitment to democracy.

“Their sudden show of support for the Reform Commission is nothing but political intervention in disguise,” he added.

The NCP leader stated that the people of Bangladesh now recognize this deception, emphasizing that the public will not be misled again by “false reformists” or strategic political opportunists.

Concluding his post, Nahid Islam warned,

“The Creator and the sovereign people of this country will never tolerate corrupt, opportunistic, and morally weak forces attempting to rule over them.”
