Dhaka, July 17 (V7N) – Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of BNP, criticized the government, accusing it of creating a 'reign of terror' across Bangladesh during the ongoing quota reform protests. Speaking to reporters after attending a solemn funeral prayer at Baitul Mukarram Mosque for students killed in the protests, Fakhrul emphasized that BNP has extended moral support to the student agitation but denied direct involvement.

"The government has unleashed terror through its forces, resorting to shooting and repression at Dhaka University and various educational institutions in Dhaka, Chattogram, Bogura, Rangpur, Barishal, and other cities," Fakhrul stated.

Expressing grief over the deaths of six students, including the direct shooting of Abu Sayed in Rangpur, Fakhrul condemned the government's repressive tactics. He criticized the regime for failing to resolve the issue through dialogue, attributing the deaths to government obstinacy.

Fakhrul also condemned police actions during the funeral prayer, alleging obstruction of opposition participation and a staged raid at BNP's central office. He emphasized BNP's stance of providing moral support to the student movement while advocating for peaceful resolution through open dialogue.

The funeral prayer for the slain students was held amid tight security measures at Baitul Mukarram Mosque, with subsequent clashes between BNP leaders, activists, and police.
