In a recent statement, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir asserted that the entire nation is united against the current government, which he accused of violence and repression. Dhaka, Aug 02 (V7N) – Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), criticized the current government for its response to recent student protests and broader public dissent.

In a statement issued on Friday, Fakhrul accused the Awami League government of perpetuating violence and suppression against protesters and citizens. He highlighted ongoing concerns raised by both domestic and international observers regarding human rights abuses by the government.

Fakhrul emphasized that the widespread participation in the student-led movement across the country reflects a unified opposition to what he described as a "murderous and autocratic regime." He called for the resignation of the government and demanded an apology for its alleged actions against protesters.

The BNP leader condemned recent incidents of violence against students in cities including Dhaka, Sylhet, Habiganj, Khulna, Chandpur, and Laxmipur, which resulted in casualties and injuries. He also denounced the arrest of opposition figures and activists, claiming that many are being detained under false pretenses.

Fakhrul criticized what he referred to as the "arrest trade" where individuals, including students and opposition members, are being arrested indiscriminately. He urged the government to cease such practices and address the grievances of the populace.

The BNP has raised concerns over the legal process, alleging harassment of lawyers attempting to access case documents and the misuse of legal mechanisms against protesters and opposition supporters.
