Dhaka, Aug 23 (V7N): A Dhaka Court has placed Rashed Khan Menon, president of the Workers Party of Bangladesh and a former minister in the Awami League-led government, on a five-day remand in connection with a murder case filed at New Market police station on August 21.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider issued the remand order after police requested a 10-day remand for further interrogation. The confirmation came from New Market police station's general recording officer, Liakat Ali, according to New Age.

Menon, a freedom fighter and former minister allied with the deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, has a long history of political involvement. He served as vice-president of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union during the 1963-64 term and was president of the East Pakistan Students’ Union from 1964-67. Additionally, he was the founding general secretary of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, established in 1972.
