Sonargaon, Nov 18 (V7N)- A devastating fire broke out early Monday morning at the Meghna Group's tissue factory in the Meghnaghat Jhauchar area of Sonargaon upazila, Narayanganj. The blaze erupted around 5 am and has caused extensive damage, with goods worth several hundred crores of taka reportedly destroyed.

Fourteen fire service units, including teams from Dhaka, Sonargaon, Narayanganj, Demra, Kanchpur, Gazaria, and Bandar, along with the Meghna Group's own fire team, are actively working to contain the fire.

Deputy Director of Fire Service Dhaka Division, Salauddin, confirmed the deployment of multiple units and said, "The fire is spreading rapidly in all directions, and significant efforts are being made to bring it under control."

Factory officials suspect the fire originated from an electrical short circuit during the early hours. While no injuries have been reported so far, the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed.

The tissue factory, a significant facility under the Meghna Group, has suffered substantial losses, with estimates of goods worth hundreds of crores being destroyed.

As of now, firefighting efforts are ongoing. Authorities have not yet declared the fire under control. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

This incident marks a major setback for the Meghna Group, one of Bangladesh's leading industrial conglomerates.
