Chattogram, Apr 04 (V7N) – The death toll in the tragic collision between a bus and a microbus on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway has climbed to 11, as another injured passenger succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Taslima Akhter Prema (20). She passed away around 12:00 PM on Friday at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Confirming the matter, the Director of Chittagong Medical College Hospital said, “Taslima was brought in critical condition and was admitted to the ICU immediately after the accident. Despite all efforts by our medical team, we could not save her.”
Currently, two others injured in the incident are still under medical care. Among them, seven-year-old Aradhya Biswas, who was initially admitted to the ICU at CMC Hospital, has been transferred to Square Hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment. Tapan Chowdhury, the Managing Director of Square Pharmaceuticals, has taken full responsibility for Aradhya’s treatment.
The third survivor, Durjoy Mandal (25), remains under observation at CMC Hospital.
The fatal accident occurred on Wednesday morning (April 2) in the Chunati Jangalia area of Lohagara Upazila, when a bus and a microbus collided head-on. Ten people died on the spot, while three others were critically injured. With Taslima’s death, the official death toll now stands at 11.
This tragic incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the region. Local authorities and law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision.
