Munshiganj, June 14 (V7N) — At least one person was killed and several others critically injured in a horrific collision between a passenger bus and a stationary truck on the Padma Bridge late Friday night.
The accident took place around 10 PM near Pillar No. 2 on the Mawamukhi lane of the bridge when a truck suddenly broke down on the roadway. Moments later, a Dhaka-bound Imad Paribahan passenger bus crashed into the back of the truck at high speed, leaving the front of the bus completely mangled.
One passenger died on the spot. Several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to various hospitals in Dhaka, including Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Pangu Hospital). Most of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.
Rescue teams from the Fire Service and Padma Bridge authorities promptly responded to the scene and carried out the rescue operation. Traffic on the Padma Bridge was suspended for approximately two hours following the crash but has since returned to normal.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased or injured. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
