Dhaka, Oct 16 (V7N) — Even after 72 hours since the devastating fire broke out at a chemical warehouse in Mirpur’s Shialbari, smoke and toxic gases are still billowing from the site, creating serious health and safety concerns.
On Thursday morning (October 16), firefighters were seen working continuously to control the lingering smoke and prevent further ignition within the warehouse.
Despite repeated warnings, a curious crowd has continued to gather near the area. Fire service personnel have been using microphones to urge people to stay at least 300 yards away from the site.
According to officials, the blaze caused the formation of various toxic gases inside the warehouse, which have now mixed with the surrounding air. The Fire Service and Civil Defence has warned that inhaling these gases could lead to skin, lung, and heart-related complications.
Authorities have advised nearby residents to avoid the area and use masks or wet cloths over their noses and mouths if exposure is unavoidable.
