Munshiganj, Jan 02 (V7N) – Three separate road accidents occurred in the Munshiganj section of the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway amid dense fog, leaving at least 20 people injured and six vehicles damaged.
The accidents took place between Thursday (January 1) night and Friday morning in the Bejgaon, Chhonbari and Dogachhi areas of the expressway.
According to Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, the first accident occurred around 9:00 pm on Thursday when an unidentified vehicle rammed into a Mawa-bound Saad Paribahan bus at Bejgaon, injuring nine passengers on the spot.
Later, at around 1:00 am, a passenger bus crashed into the rear of a parked truck on the Chhonbari Bridge, leaving 10 people injured.
The third accident occurred at around 5:30 am on Friday at Dogachhi in Lohajang, when a covered van collided with a truck from behind, trapping the van driver inside the vehicle and injuring one person.
Dewan Azad Hossain, Station Officer of Srinagar Fire Station, said rescue teams rushed to the scene after receiving information and carried out rescue operations. The injured were sent to different hospitals, including the Upazila Health Complex, for treatment.
He added that the vehicles involved in the accidents are currently in the custody of the Highway Police. Despite the incidents, vehicular movement on the expressway has now returned to normal.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially during foggy conditions, as reduced visibility continues to pose serious risks on highways during the winter season.
