Dhaka, Jan 16 (V7N) — At least three people were killed in a devastating fire that broke out in a seven-storey residential building in Sector 11 of Uttara in the capital on Friday morning.
According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the fire originated on the second floor of the building at around 7:45 am, quickly spreading smoke and flames and trapping residents inside.
In a press release issued by the Fire Service Headquarters’ media cell, it was confirmed that two women and one man lost their lives in the incident. Several others were injured and later rescued and taken to Kuwait Friendship Hospital for treatment.
Fire Service officials said that two firefighting units rushed to the scene around 8:00 am after receiving the alert. Through coordinated efforts, the fire was brought under control by 8:25 am and fully extinguished by around 10:00 am.
The sudden blaze created panic in the surrounding area as residents attempted to escape the smoke-filled building. The cause of the fire could not be determined immediately, and an investigation is underway.
Authorities have assured that further details will be disclosed following a thorough inquiry into the incident.
