HABIGANJ, July 31 (V7N) — Two young brothers drowned after falling into a water-filled pit while playing near their home in Habiganj's Shaistaganj upazila, family members said.

The victims were identified as Shraban Sarkar, 8, and Sourav Sarkar, 6, sons of Bakul Sarkar of Shailjura village in Ward No. 3 of Brahmandora Union.

According to the family, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when the two children were playing football in a paddy field beside their home. They reportedly fell into a deep, water-filled pit and disappeared beneath the water.

A local farmer later spotted the children floating in the pit and immediately alerted their family. Relatives rushed to the scene and recovered the boys, but they were pronounced dead.

The children's grandmother said they had accidentally fallen into the water while playing, turning an ordinary afternoon into a tragic accident.

The deaths of the two brothers have cast a pall of grief over the village, with relatives and neighbours mourning the heartbreaking loss.
