Rangamati, Aug 18 (V7N) — A fisherman in Rangamati’s Langadu Upazila sacrificed his life to save his young son after their boat capsized in Kaptai Lake. His body was recovered about 16 hours after the accident.

The deceased was identified as Falan Mia, son of Mohammad Shahabuddin, a fisherman from Chhoto Mahilya village in Ward 3 of Gulshakhali Union.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening in the 14 No. Bill area between Kalapakujjya and Gulshakhali unions. Falan Mia was returning home by a small fishing boat with his 8–9-year-old son when the boat suddenly capsized.

After the boat went under, Falan reportedly focused entirely on protecting his son. He held the child firmly in the water and struggled to keep him afloat for an extended period.

At one point, another boat spotted them from a distance and moved towards them. Falan used his remaining strength to place his son safely aboard the rescuing boat.

Shortly after ensuring his son's safety, Falan disappeared beneath the water.

He remained missing throughout the night. On Monday morning, members of the Langadu Fire Service recovered his body approximately 16 hours after the incident.

The tragic incident has left the local community mourning the death of a father who, in his final moments, put his child's safety before his own.

Falan Mia did not return home with his son, but his final act of courage has become a poignant example of a father's unconditional love and sacrifice.
