Barguna, Aug 18 (V7N) — The body of a 15-year-old Class 10 student who went missing after entering the Payra River for a swim in Barguna was recovered approximately 33 hours later.

The deceased, identified as Jui, was a student of Mirpur High School in Dhaka. She had been visiting relatives in Latakata area of Barguna Sadar Upazila during her summer vacation.

On Sunday morning, Jui entered the nearby Payra River with relatives to bathe. According to her family, she was not a strong swimmer and was swept into deeper water by a strong tidal current.

Following the incident, Barguna Fire Service, a diving team and police launched a search operation. Rescue teams searched different sections of the river for hours but initially failed to locate her.

At around 6pm on Monday, local residents spotted her body along the bank of the Payra River near the thermal power plant in the Joyalbhanga-Nalbunia area of Taltali Upazila.

Police were informed and later recovered the body with assistance from local residents. Police also conducted the preliminary examination at the scene.

Barguna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Hasnain Parvez confirmed the recovery and said necessary legal procedures were underway.

The recovery of the teenager’s body has cast a pall of grief over her family and relatives.
