Mongla, June (V7N)- The body of fisherman Mahidul Islam, who went missing after his trawler sank in the Bangabandhu Mongla-Ghasiakhali International Canal, has been recovered 30 hours later. He went missing early Thursday (June 27) and was found on Friday (June 28) at around 10 a.m. on the western bank of the canal in the Mongla area.
 
Mongla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) K.M. Azizul Islam reported that the incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Thursday when the gas-carrying vessel "Jamuna-02" accidentally went over the fishermen’s boat near the Joykha area of the canal. Among the two fishermen on the boat, one, Tarikul Islam, managed to swim to safety, but Mahidul Islam went missing. Despite extensive search efforts by the police, naval police, and fire service divers throughout the day, they could not locate him.
 
Finally, on Friday morning at 10 a.m., police recovered Mahidul’s body floating near the western bank of the Bangabandhu Mongla-Ghasiakhali International Canal adjacent to Madrasa Road in Mongla. The body was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Friday afternoon. Mahidul Islam was the son of Rashid Sheikh from Ulubunia village in Sonailtala Union of the upazila.
