Rangamati, Sept. 10 (V7N) - A student leader of Rangamati Science and Technology University (RMSTU) has filed a General Diary (GD) with Rangamati Kotwali Police Station, alleging that a construction contractor threatened him over comments he made on social media about the university’s transport crisis and ongoing road construction.

Jishan Ahmed, 24, filed the GD at the police station on Tuesday evening, Sept. 8. The complaint, registered as GD No. 866, names Sheikh Didarul, 45, a resident of Raozan in Chattogram, as the alleged perpetrator.

In a video message posted around midnight, Jishan said students and teachers had been discussing the university’s transport problems throughout the day. He said he posted on Facebook highlighting students’ difficulties.

According to Jishan, he had spoken with an official of the university’s transport department, identified as Mamun, who told him that the university buses could not resume operations because road construction had not been completed and drivers had not yet been recruited.

Jishan said he subsequently made a Facebook post in the public interest about the issue. He also questioned why the road work, which was supposed to be completed by June, had not been finished.

He said that in his Facebook post and comments, he expressed the view that the road work might have been delayed because of the contractor.

Jishan alleged that the contractor called his WhatsApp number at around 7:07 p.m. on Tuesday and questioned him about why he had spoken against the contractor. He claimed that the contractor subsequently threatened him.

According to Jishan, he was allegedly threatened with social humiliation, the creation of various narratives against him and being labelled a “Chandabaz” or extortionist on social media. He also alleged that the contractor threatened to submit a written complaint against him to the university administration.

Jishan said he told the contractor that they had never discussed the matter directly. However, he alleged that the contractor continued making similar remarks.

He further claimed that the contractor said he was unable to proceed with the road work because he had not received payment from the university.

Jishan said he filed the GD to protect his personal safety and social reputation and to formally document the matter in case of any untoward incident in the future.

He said he expected a proper investigation and appropriate legal action against the contractor.

The GD also mentions the alleged WhatsApp call and threats and requests necessary legal action.

The allegations against Sheikh Didarul could not be independently verified, and his immediate response was not available.

The incident comes amid continuing concerns over construction and infrastructure work at RMSTU. A previous incident in June 2025 also led to construction work at the university being disrupted after armed men allegedly entered the campus and threatened workers.
