Dhaka, Oct 21 (V7N) — Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury has been appointed as the new Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Previously serving as the ambassador to Nepal, his appointment was confirmed by an official order from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

According to the order, Chowdhury will hold this position until further notice. He succeeds Mohammad Abdul Muhith, who has served as Bangladesh's Permanent Representative at the UN for over two years and is set to retire in December.

In another diplomatic development, Bangladesh is establishing a permanent mission to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. MJH Javed, a professional diplomat, has been appointed as the ambassador and permanent representative to the OIC. This marks a significant milestone as Javed will be the first-ever ambassador of Bangladesh's permanent mission to the OIC.

These diplomatic shifts reflect Bangladesh's ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence and engagement on the global stage, both within the United Nations and in the broader Islamic community through the OIC.
