Dhaka, Nov 06 (V7N)- Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced that the rising trend of extortion in the country will be met with firm action, emphasizing the need for immediate measures to curb the issue.

The adviser made these statements on Wednesday during a conference at the Secretariat. He stressed that no offenders would be exempt from the law, saying, "No criminal will be spared, regardless of who they are."

Lt Gen Chowdhury highlighted that newly assigned police officers in Dhaka would require time to become acquainted with the city’s complex network of alleys and streets. While he acknowledged improvements in Dhaka’s law and order, he underscored that additional advancements are still needed.

As part of the current efforts, street vendors will be removed from the roadsides, although sidewalk stalls will be allowed to remain for the time being, he added.
