Dhaka, Nov 10 (V7N)- The interim government plans to request Interpol to issue a red notice to facilitate the return of fugitive figures, including Sheikh Hasina, for trial at the International Crimes Tribunal concerning the July-August genocide case, announced Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul.

"A red notice will be issued through Interpol very soon. These fugitive fascists will be brought back and held accountable in court, regardless of their location," Nazrul stated today while inspecting the renovation work at the International Crimes Tribunal.

Addressing media queries, he mentioned that misinformation campaigns are being spread to mislead the public and harm the nation's reputation with a baseless case allegedly filed with the International Criminal Court. "Anyone can make such accusations. We are not giving them any importance," he added.

Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus, in an interview with the Financial Times on October 30, stated that the interim government would not immediately pursue Hasina's extradition from India to avoid intensifying diplomatic tensions with Bangladesh’s neighboring country.

What is Interpol?
The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) is an intergovernmental entity with 196 member countries that fosters international cooperation to enhance global security by enabling cross-border law enforcement collaboration. It facilitates the exchange of data on crimes and criminals and provides extensive technical and operational assistance.

Explainer: Red Notice and How It Works
A Red Notice is an international request to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal processes. However, it is not an international arrest warrant. Member countries retain autonomy in deciding whether to arrest the person based on their respective laws.
