Dhaka, Nov 24 (V7N) — Former Chief Justice Md. Ruhul Amin passed away early Sunday morning at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital. He was 83 years old. The Supreme Court announced that he breathed his last at 4:30 am while undergoing treatment.

The Janaza of Justice Ruhul Amin is scheduled to take place at the Supreme Court's inner courtyard on Tuesday, November 26, after the Zuhr prayer. Judges from both the High Court and Appellate Divisions, including Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, are expected to attend.

Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed expressed deep sorrow over the demise, describing it as a profound loss for the legal community. "Bangladesh has lost a shining star of the world of law," he said in his condolence message, extending heartfelt sympathies to the late justice's family.

To honour his memory, judicial proceedings in both divisions of the Supreme Court will remain suspended on Sunday, although administrative operations at the Registry Building will continue.

Md. Ruhul Amin was born on June 1, 1941, in Lakshmipur. He earned his Master’s degree in Political Science in 1962 and an LLB in 1965 from Dhaka University. His legal career began in 1966 when he enrolled as a lawyer at the then East Pakistan High Court, later becoming a lawyer in the Appellate Division in 1981.

Justice Ruhul Amin was appointed as a High Court judge on February 18, 1992, and elevated to the Appellate Division on January 11, 2001. He served as the Chief Justice of Bangladesh from March 1, 2007, to May 31, 2008.

Justice Ruhul Amin's contributions to Bangladesh's judiciary will be remembered as a beacon of integrity and dedication.
